First and foremost, you must start with a bankroll of substance. You can't just play out of your pocket. I always suggest using $50,000 to $100,000 bankroll per sport and never overlap one sport into another.
You must have your set of guidelines and ironclad rules. Remember we are talking about making an living and having enough cash set aside for the bumps and grinds {winning and losing streaks} in the road over an extended period of time. When you bet on sports there are tremendous highs and lows.
You must have an excellent understanding of numbers along with good handicapping ability, tremendous discipline, with a proven money management program. You must be willing to sacifice and do whatever it takes to be successful and have courage and a great feel for the game.
That makes it hard for a person with a family to substain success over the long haul. If you enjoy hard work and understand how to survive, then this game can be beaten. Not too many are willing to pay the price.

As a Professional Sports Analyst / handicapper for over two decades, I have heard and read just about every betting system or theory imaginable. For myself, Emotion is one of many factors I use in handicapping any sporting event. Yes, of course I look at stats just like everyone else, but that's just my point, so does everyone else! I accept statistics as a valuable tool in analyzing what has already happened, but I never rely on these statistics for divining what will happen in the future. If stats were so foolproof, then everyone gambling would win and all the bookmakers would be losers. Now with revenues from gambling, both legal and illegal activities, number well into Billions of dollars annually, we all know that there is a small chance for this to happen.
The solution is to look for an edge and blend it with knowledge and then have a commitment towards winning. Take time to try and learn about emotional aspects of sporting events and you'll see that it will sometimes help give anyone who wishes to wager that little extra edge. Let this be just one more weapon in your arsenal that will allow you to attain your goal of being a Successful Sports Investor.
